FAQ
The things people ask most.
- What does Dayleaf do?
- You write down what you want to remember and add a few photos, and it lays them out as a digital journal page. There are ten styles: daily, travel, collage, weekly, media, foodie, fan log and love, plus a pop-up page that stands up and a play page with moving parts.
- Are my photos uploaded?
- Not while you try it out on the home page: photos are laid out in your own browser. When you log in and save a journal, its photos are uploaded and kept in your account, where only you can see them; delete the journal and they are deleted too. They become public only if you share a journal to the community together with its photos. Photos are scaled down in your browser before upload, which also removes details stored in the file such as where it was taken.
- Can I add a lot of photos at once?
- Yes. Under “Create” in the editor you can choose up to 30. They are put in the order they were taken, split over several pages, and each page is laid out in a style. You can choose the types, colour mood and ink yourself or leave it to the app, and change any page afterwards.
- Can I save or export what I write?
- Yes. Log in and save from “Write a page”, then open it again any time under “My journal”. With “Share” you can also turn the whole journal into pictures (one portrait picture per page) or a short self-playing video, with a caption, for WeChat, Xiaohongshu, Douyin or TikTok; pop-up and play pages are flat in both. What you write before logging in is kept as a draft in this browser, so you can carry on after you log in.
- What can the AI do for me?
- Three things, all in the bar along the bottom of the editor. With “Whole journal” chosen: give it a batch of photos, a few lines of text, or both, and it splits them into pages, picks a layout for each and writes the words. With “This page” chosen, “Write this page” writes the title, the body and the little things from that page’s photos and whatever you typed in the bar. “Draw a picture for it” under Photos paints a watercolour illustration from the page’s words; it is an illustration, not a photograph. You can change every part afterwards by clicking the words, frames or stickers on the journal. What you write is sent to a third-party AI service for processing; small copies of your photos are sent only when you ask it to look at them.
- What are credits, and what do things cost?
- Credits pay for asking the AI: writing a page takes 1, making a journal 5 (more than 30 photos or 15 pages counts as several), drawing a picture 4 (for members). Writing, adding photos, changing layouts, saving and sharing cost nothing, and neither does laying photos out by the time they were taken. Every account has a free allowance each month and members have a larger one; it goes back to full once a month and what is left does not carry over. When it runs out you can buy more, and bought credits do not expire. Nothing is charged for what was not made: credits are taken first and given back if it fails. Your balance and history are under “Me → Membership and credits”.
- How can I log in?
- With any of the ways the login page lists, such as your email (a password or an emailed code) or your Google account. Apart from an email and password, which you sign up for, an account is created the first time you log in. If you forget your password, use “Forgot your password?” on the login page.
- How do I delete my account?
- At the bottom of the “Membership and credits” page, under “Delete account”, type DELETE to confirm. Your account, all your journals and photos, community shares, credits and membership are deleted for good, and your subscription is cancelled.
- How do I pay for membership, and can I cancel?
- Payment happens on a page hosted by Stripe; we never see your card number. Membership is a monthly or yearly subscription. You can cancel at any time under “Manage subscription” in the account menu and keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- What is included when I share to the community?
- Pick a journal under “My journal” and share it, either with its photos or with words and layout only (the pages then show sample pictures). Others can look at it and press “Make one like this” to build their own with the same run of layouts and colour mood; they do not get your photos or words. You can stop sharing at any time.
- Is what people share reviewed? What if I see something that should not be there?
- Yes. A shared journal is reviewed before it appears in the community, and again if it is changed afterwards; if it is not approved, “My journal” tells you why. If you see something that should not be there, open that journal and press “Report this journal” at the bottom of the page. The person who shared it is not told who reported it.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. On a phone, “Write a page” moves in close to the page you are writing on. The 3D journal needs a browser with WebGL.
- Which languages are available?
- Chinese and English for now. You can switch at the top of the page.
